NHS North West London Health and Care Strategy: Residents' Forum

The NHS is in the process of creating a new health and care strategy for the eight
boroughs of North West London, including Hammersmith and Fulham, and they want input from residents regarding the plan so far and what is important to the local communities. Share your views and be in for the chance of winning a £100 voucher!
Health and care strategy for North West London: Residents' forum

Proactive population health and reducing inequalities for everyone is something the NHS wants to improve upon. They want to make sure they have a clear understanding of the health status of the population, work to improve access to education and employment opportunities and work with public health partners to keep communities healthy. Priorities include:

  • To improve support for mental health, learning disabilities and autism, they intend to put more mental health support in schools and create more community based mental health services. 
  • The NHS of North West London wants to decrease waiting times for hospital services and referrals, especially for cancer care and other threatening illnesses. 
  • They strive to understand the differing needs of patients in maternity care and children across the boroughs, while ensuring that families have a voice.
  • The NHS plans to stay up to date with both technological and societal advancements, and continues to make improvements regarding staff support and care.

Generally, they want to increase care, support and outreach in the communities by creating partnerships with members of the local community, local councils, and the NHS to support residents’ health and care needs and improve overall communication. They want to improve education services, efficiency, equity and involvement.

NHS North West London have set out this plan for the next 5 years but they need to hear from you. They're now asking: "Have we got it right? Are we looking at the right things? What needs to be changed?

Healthwatch H&F marks World Immunisation Week 2024 with community outreach event

Healthwatch H&F is marking World Immunisation Week with a community outreach event to provide residents with more information about vaccines and give children the opportunity to get their MMR vaccines if required.
World Immunisation Week starts today, 24 April - 30 April 2024.

Immunisation is essential for protecting individuals and communities from vaccine-preventable diseases, saving lives, and promoting global health and well-being.

To mark the important occasion, Healthwatch H&F, Canberra Old Oak Surgery and QPR in the Community Trust have partnered together to give parents and families in the local area the chance to ask questions and talk to Canberra Old Oak surgery staff and Healthwatch H&F about why vaccines are important to protect children against Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR). Any child still in need of MMR vaccines can also get them on the day.

Particularly with measles cases still high in London, it is even more vital for local people to ensure that their children are protected.

Spring COVID-19 Vaccination Programme Launched This Week

From 22 April until 30 June 2024, the seasonal COVID-19 booster will be available, free, for those who are at greatest risk of becoming seriously ill from the virus.
The NHS will be inviting those eligible, but you do not need to wait for an invitation to book your vaccine. If you are eligible, you can:

Download the NHS App and make an appointment:
Visit www.nhs.uk/get-vaccine
Call 119 for free if you can’t get online (translators are available)

Alternatively, a number of walk-in sites will be open across north west London from 22 April. You can view the full list of walk-in clinics in north west London to find a site that’s convenient for you.

No booking is required at walk-in clinics, but you are advised to contact the vaccination site in advance to confirm their opening times. Individuals do not need to be registered with the NHS to use walk-in services and do not need to bring any identification.

Those people who are eligible and should have the vaccination this spring are:

1. Adults aged 75 years and over
2. Residents in care homes for older adults
3. Individuals aged 6 months and over* who are immunosuppressed (as defined in the Green Book, chapter 14a; tables 3 and 4).

*Please also note that not all sites offer vaccination to children. It is advised to contact the site in advance to check this.
